You must never ever allow a situation where you can smell gas or fumes in your home to go unreported. Should this happen and even if you only think that you can smell something, you must take some immediate actions for you and your families safety as an explosion is quite possible. A Lee Plumber can detect and rectify this. You should observe the following:

1. Turn off all gas appliances.
2. Turn off the emergency gas control valve at the gas meter.
3. Open all windows.
4. Do not operate any light switches and extinguish all naked flames. The telephone number of the national gas emergency service is: 0800111999.

You should always have easy access to the gas meter. If you have a gas meter box make sure you know where the key is kept in case of an emergency, so you can locate it easily (this is very important). You can close off the gas supply completely by turning the handle attached to the emergency control valve just one quarter turn. A Grove Park Plumber can isolate the gas. The products that are produced by combustion are highly dangerous, not just from gas appliances but from any fuel burning appliances, such as those burning oil and solid fuel. Unison all products other than gas and there is a good chance that these will contain carbon monoxide, which is a very toxic gas that has no real smell and can build up in the home really quicl[kly if the flue on the boiler becomes blocked (you should have a carbon monoxide detector fitted in the home).

As above, if you smell any fumes:
1. Turn off the gas appliance.
2. Open the windows were the fumes are discovered.
3. If you feel drowsy, evacuate the building to get some fresh air into your lungs.
4. Call a doctor if necessary.
5. Call a gas service engineer.
